The bankruptcy case files are unbound case papers filed in five bankruptcy proceedings held in U.S. District Court for the Territory of Dakota and the Territorial Supreme Court. The cases were initiated before the Associate Justice of the Territorial Supreme Court serving as judge for the First Judicial District. Hearings for two of the cases were transferred to the Second Judicial District as a result of the redistribution of the courts in 1877. The case papers include creditors and debtors petitions, schedules of debts and arrests, adjudication of bankruptcy and orders of reference, depositions of creditors and debtors, abstracts of hearings, memorandums of meetings of creditors, selection of assignees, reports of assignees, affidavits of publication, and orders of discharge.
